Kitchen Demolition- Out with the Old… in With the New

Since I can remember, I had a picture of my dream kitchen in my head. So, when we decided to look for a house we wanted to find a house with an old-outdated kitchen so we can justify fulfilling my dream kitchen plan. We were very fortunate because George’s kitchen was exactly what we were looking for. When you look at the pictures from the listing, you might argue that the kitchen looked somewhat decent but let me tell you, in person, NOT SO MUCH.09252244_2_0

The cabinets were old and putting in a piece of granite hardly helps add any charm. Luckily, they were pretty easy to move and are doing great as utility cabinets in the garage and in the basement.

The first thing on our list after closing was to demo(lition) the kitchen. It happened quick thanks to my father-in-law who is a true demo pro.

I wanted absolutely everything out of the kitchen. Especially the tiles on the walls and maybe the floors.

But, my dear father-in-law informed me that removing floor tiles is a job bigger than him and my husband and asked me to compromise. Stubborn me thought about it, but sometimes there are things that I’m able to agree to pretty fast. The floor tiles were in good condition (back then I thought they will be once I’m done scrubbing them), the color wasn’t too crazy and I can definitely work something out.

Once everything was out I started planning the layout of the kitchen, measuring, visiting the IKEA website like an obsessive freak and making regular trips to our local IKEA store. I like the layout and I didn’t want to change it. I liked an idea of keeping everything clean and open, and I was very excited to see our kitchen come together.

Picture of my dream kitchen from my head (no… for real it’s from West Elm)…my inspiration from the start!
